CHRISTMAS

Celebrating the greatest gift of all

There’s an old saying – there’s no Christmas without Easter, but equally, there’s no Easter without Christmas. This “most wonderful time of the year” truly lives up to its tag – celebrating the coming of our Messiah, Jesus.

Our theme this Christmas is “The Songs of Christmas”. For many, Christmas is simply a holiday, a time for gifts and a time for family. All of this is true, at least in our Australian context – however, Christmas is so much more than that.

Christmas is all about God Himself – Jesus Christ, who stepped down from the glory of heaven to become human so that He could die on a cross to rescue us from our sin. This is what the Angel declared to Mary. This is why angels sang, shepherds sang, and people sang both before and after Christ was born! Just why Jesus is such a gift to us, is beautifully explained by the apostle Paul:

…Jesus, who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness… he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross!

Philippians 2:5-7

Because of Jesus, we can know God's forgiveness. Because of Jesus, we can become part of God's family. Because of Jesus, we have hope for a better future. Because of Jesus, those who trust in Him will live with Him forever in heaven.

This truly makes the birth of Jesus good news for everyone – His life, death and resurrection made the way for us to come to God. It also raises two questions that we all face with at some point:

  • ‘Who is Jesus?’, and,
  • ‘Will we trust what Jesus did to make us right with God?’

We would love to explore these questions with you, so please join us this Christmas to explore who Jesus is and why His coming truly is reason for singing!.
