baptism

WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Salvation is a work of God and His grace in us that saves us, then we take the step of turning away from our desires (sin) and totally trust in and surrender to God. Water baptism is the outward show of the work of God in our hearts. Water baptism - that is, baptism by full immersion, to be fully submerged in the water - identifies us with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

WHY DO WE NEED TO BE BAPTISED?

There are several reasons why a Christian needs to be baptised:

  • It is a command. In Acts 2, Peter preached the good news of Christ, and the audience that day wanted to follow Christ. Peter told them to "repent and be baptised".
  • It is a declaration of the work that God has done in our heart. We are not saved through baptism but it openly tells the world that we have chosen to "die" to our self desires and are "raised to new life" in Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 3 tells us that baptism is a symbol of the work God has done.
  • Jesus Himself left us His example. He was baptised as we are reminded in Matthew 3. If we are to follow Him in all things, baptism is no exception.

HOW CAN I BE BAPTISED?

In order to be baptised at PCC, there are three simple steps:

  • Inform the church office or a church elder of your desire to be baptised
  • We will arrange a short baptism study for you to do, preferably with an elder. This study goes more into the significance of baptism and why we do it.
  • We will arrange to have your baptism at the next available opportunity.

For more details on baptism, or to inform the church of your desire to be baptised, please contact the church office on 02 9630 3892, or to email, click here.
